After three decades of development, the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) has become one of the most successful symbols of economic cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore. From the first industrial park established in Binh Duong in 1996, the VSIP network has expanded to 28 industrial parks across Vietnam, making significant contributions to foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, industrial development, job creation, and the country’s economic competitiveness.
At the celebration marking Singapore’s 61st National Day and the 30th anniversary of VSIP, senior officials from both countries emphasized that VSIP is not only a symbol of bilateral cooperation but also the foundation for a new era of collaboration through VSIP 2.0—a next-generation model focused on green, smart, and high-value industrial development.
VSIP: A Landmark of Vietnam–Singapore Economic Cooperation
Speaking at the celebration hosted by the Embassy of Singapore in Hanoi, Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam Rajpal Singh highlighted that one of Singapore’s greatest achievements over the past 61 years has been building strong and lasting friendships with international partners, with Vietnam being among its closest partners.
According to Ambassador Rajpal Singh, VSIP is the clearest symbol of the strong economic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore, while also reflecting Singapore’s position as one of Vietnam’s largest foreign investors.
He noted that since the establishment of the first VSIP in Binh Duong (now part of Ho Chi Minh City) in 1996, the network has grown to 28 industrial parks across numerous provinces and cities throughout Vietnam.
The Ambassador also expressed optimism that several additional VSIP projects would be launched before the end of 2026.
VSIP 2.0: The Next Generation of Green and Smart Industrial Parks
One of the most significant announcements during the event was the introduction of VSIP 2.0, Singapore’s new strategy for industrial park development.
According to Ambassador Rajpal Singh, the next generation of VSIP projects will emphasize:
- Smart industrial parks
- Green industrial parks
- Modern digital infrastructure
- High-tech manufacturing
- High value-added industries
- Sustainable development
The transition from traditional industrial parks to VSIP 2.0 reflects the changing demands of global investors, who increasingly prioritize digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and advanced infrastructure.
Rather than simply providing industrial land, future VSIP developments will integrate smart technologies, logistics services, clean energy systems, and digital management platforms to create comprehensive industrial ecosystems.
Vietnam Recognizes VSIP’s Outstanding Contributions
Representing the Vietnamese Government, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong stated that since establishing diplomatic relations in 1973, Vietnam and Singapore have continuously strengthened their partnership based on political trust, shared strategic interests, and mutual development goals.
He described VSIP as one of the brightest highlights in bilateral cooperation.
Over the past 30 years, the VSIP model has expanded across multiple provinces, successfully combining:
- Singapore’s expertise in planning and governance
- International connectivity
- Vietnam’s development potential
- Abundant human resources
- Strong commitment to industrialization
Beyond attracting investment and developing industrial infrastructure, VSIP has created hundreds of thousands of jobs while promoting technology transfer, high governance standards, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
30 Years of VSIP Strengthening High-Quality FDI Inflows
Throughout its three-decade journey, VSIP has consistently ranked among Vietnam’s most attractive destinations for multinational corporations.
Companies operating in sectors such as:
- Electronics
- Semiconductors
- Medical equipment
- Logistics
- Precision engineering
- High-tech manufacturing
have chosen VSIP as their production base in Vietnam.
The continued expansion of VSIP has strengthened Vietnam’s role within global supply chains while providing strong momentum for the country’s industrial real estate market.
As global manufacturers continue diversifying their production networks across Southeast Asia, VSIP is expected to remain a preferred destination for high-tech and environmentally responsible investments.
Driving the Development of Next-Generation Industrial Parks
Vietnam’s industrial park sector is entering a new phase of development, where investors are no longer focused solely on available industrial land but increasingly demand:
- High-quality infrastructure
- Efficient logistics systems
- Reliable energy supply
- Digital transformation
- ESG compliance
- Green development
- Comprehensive business ecosystems
These priorities closely align with the vision behind VSIP 2.0.
By integrating smart technologies, renewable energy, digital management systems, and low-carbon solutions, the new generation of VSIP developments will significantly enhance Vietnam’s competitiveness in attracting global investment.
Singapore Remains a Strategic Investment Partner
Singapore has consistently ranked among Vietnam’s largest foreign investors for many years.
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries continues to deepen across multiple sectors, including:
- Investment
- Trade
- Industrial development
- Digital transformation
- Green energy
- Innovation
- Human resource development
Among these achievements, VSIP remains the most successful and recognizable example of bilateral cooperation, reflecting the strong trust and long-term commitment shared by both countries.
Industry experts believe that as Vietnam accelerates the development of green industrial parks, digital infrastructure, and high-tech manufacturing, Singapore and the VSIP model will continue to play an increasingly important role.
Outlook: A New Chapter for Vietnam–Singapore Economic Cooperation
The 30th anniversary of VSIP marks not only the remarkable success of an industrial park model but also the beginning of a new era in Vietnam–Singapore economic cooperation.
With the launch of VSIP 2.0, emphasizing high technology, green transformation, smart infrastructure, and sustainable development, the VSIP network is expected to lead the next generation of industrial park development in Vietnam.
As Vietnam continues to strengthen its position as a strategic destination for global FDI, VSIP will remain an important bridge connecting international investors with the Vietnamese market while further elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Singapore.
